Relive and Restore

Before I start, I would like to apologize to whoever who is reading my blog. In my last post, I promised that I will be uploading a follow – up post but due to circumstances – laziness – I wasn’t able to upload a post about our school’s exhibit of this years graduating class, hence this apology letter.

And I guess that’s the other thing… I can’t show you pictures of it, which is sad, so I opted not to post about it at all, which leads now to this post. And since the year is ending and the the holidays are coming up, which means there’s NO SCHOOL!! I decided to really really upload this time. :)) so here it is! *cue countdown*

Hi everybody!! How are you feeling today?! Gosh, I’m so hyped up today because it’s our last day for this term! You guys don’t know how happy, pumped, relieve, sad and I could go on and on – basically I’m having a mixed-emotion-kind of feeling… But unfortunately our professors like to torture us with school works and plates that still needed to be submitted. Can you imagine doing a school project on a Christmas Day? Or even the New Year’s Eve? See how cruel our professors are??

Oh, the horror!! O_O

Sometimes I wonder what was I thinking to chose an art related course, an interior design course for that matter? Why not business or economics or engineering or some kind in those fields? But even though I sometimes question my judgement, I knew deep down inside that I am going to be happy in my chosen career. Yes, it’s sometimes frustrating; yes, it’s always tiring; yes, it’s never easy and I could go on and on about why I shouldn’t have chosen this but isn’t it that its the most fulfilling when you know that you’ve truly worked hard for this or that? and you know that you’ve earned it.

I know I’m getting emotional so I’ll stop the ranting…

And since it’s the last day… Here are my plates for one of my subjects. It’s an interior design class that focuses on residential living.

We have three major plates for this class. For the first plate, we were asked to design a condominium for an imaginary client whose budget is sky’s the limit. Unfortunately for this one I can’t show to you guys since I can’t find it… Hehehe, sometimes I can really be a mess – a hot one 😉 lol!

As for the second, we were asked to design a vacation house for another imaginary client but this time they have a budget of one million and also like the first one… I can’t show the plates as well because they are still with my professor… Hmp!

So now you’re all wondering “if she lost her plate #1 and the plate #2 is still with the professor then what will show us”

Well… Don’t fret now my dears, before I passed my 3rd and last plate I took a picture of it. :)) and this time we were asked to restore an ancestral house. And let me tell you that, that was one of the hardest plate I ever did! Even though I have lived in the Philippines for all my life I realized that I still know nothing about my mother country. That history lectures aren’t enough you have to incorporate the social, cultural and artistic aspects to fully understand and appreciate your heritage. And thank you for that Mr. Castro! Thank you, so much.

A traditional Filipino house is a “Bahay Kubo” or “Nipa Hut” it is a type of stilt house that is made up of indigenous materials, found in the Philippines, like bamboo, Nipa, wood, grass and the like. But since the Philippines have been a Spanish colony for 333 years it is safe to say that our culture was heavily influenced by the spaniards, thus resulting to change in culture.

The once considered as a traditional house by the locals, “Bahay Kubo,” was replaced by the “Bahay na Bato” which is from the spaniards.

Now, both are considered as an ancestral houses since the Spanish living had paved into the Filipino lives.

And I have decided to restore a Bahay na Bato. Lattices, carvings are prevalent in the design of Filipino – Spanish culture. We are also fond of knick – knacks and decorative items. So in general we, Filipinos are maximalist in designing although we could also be minimalist if needed.

I’m back…

Hi everyone!

Okay, so it’s been a while since I’ve last uploaded, one month and almost 3 weeks to be exact, nonetheless I’m here now for a new upload, so here it is…

First thing’s first, you all know that I’m still a student, therefore this is not my top priority – as of now. Second, being me as a student, I have a lot of plates/project or-whatever-you-want-to-call-it to do. I was in a zombie mode for quite some time now and know that I hate zombies… So I hated myself while I’m in a zombie-mode because I’m a zombie… *awkward*

Anyways, I’ve been meaning to write here but I can’t seem to find time, it’s either I’m busy with my schoolwork or I’m too tired and lazy to do work. You get the gist, so I’ll be going now.

The thin line between Moroccan and Bohemian style

Hello guys, it’s me again! Okay, so I’ve initially planned to post this after a week or so but due to the series of unfortunate events – nothing serious, though – I decided to forget the schedule an just go with it.

I was inspired to write about these two design style because my friends, who are also interior designers, and I we’re suppose to enter an exhibit that feature the Moroccan style but we got cut off because instead of having 10 groups it was reduced to 4 and we weren’t included (bummer, I know).
We were so hyped and pumped up about this that we immediately started brainstorming. So me being me researched intensively about the said style and shared it with my friends but it turns out that they have a different sense/idea of what a Moroccan style should be and it ended up being a Bohemian kind of style.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the bohemian style I just don’t actually feel that it should be synonymous to the Moroccan style. But we have to accept that they sometimes overlaps with each other. They have similarities as well as differences to tie them together.

Just think of it this way; pretend that the Moroccan style is an another period style, let say french baroque, isn’t it that it’s mostly found on the interiors of a palace, courts and other notable structures before. And just like the French baroque the Moroccan style could be said the same. It’s more classy, heavy and dark looking. Plus it has moorish influence to it.

While the bohemian style could be compared to the american shaker or the provincial style in Europe. And you can mostly see the style in the homes of the lower class people back in the olden days. It much lighter and fun looking, sometimes depending on the owner, can have plenty of plants that it can be a private flower shop. I also read, through my extensive researching, that the gypsies were the one who inspired/created this style (not so sure about this one though but most of the picture I’ve search are titled “gypsie style interior”)

Now you probably are thinking right now: “what’s the thin line she’s referring to in the title?” The answer is actually the use of their materials and colors, If you have not figured it out yet. They both like pattern! Like patterns everywhere, on the floor, the couch, the pillows, the walls and every possible area. Those patterns are combined by their color scheme of earth colors; like gold, silver, brown; red; green, blue, white and the like.

So, maybe after this you’ll be just like me who feels that the two should be separated and not be synonymous to each other. You could also see the picture in a much larger size at my tumblr site: myindlife.tumblr.com

New blogger in town!!

Hello everybody! How are you today or tonight, in my case. I’m actually writing this blog at exactly 11:24 pm… (depends on your time zones)

Anyways, this is my first time trying and actually posting a blog. Keyword is trying, I’ve been thinking of having a blog, really, but I always chickened out at the last second, so I’m asking you guys to be kind to me, please? 🙂

I’ll be posting interior design related stuff like pictures, ideas, concept, some of my works/plates and the like that I’ve seen, learn and done these past few years. I’m actually still studying the course right now – meaning I’m no pro, so let’s learn and explore the field of InD together (cue the romantic music, haha). I must apologize for the cheesy jokes it’s in my nature, sometimes.

Kidding aside, this blog is purely Interior Design related as I have said earlier but do follow/view or whatever-its-called my other blog. It’s about random stuff, any topic under the sun that I could possibly share to you guys and snippets about yours truly 🙂 link is below if you’re interested though.

Oh, I almost forgot that some of the pictures that I’ll be posting are not mine but no worries it will be properly documented, as I possibly can.
